Getting Ready for Our Fish

Last week students in 2J worked together to set up fish habitats.  They discussed what the fish will need then set up the tanks together.  Great job working together, class!

Guest Teacher!

We had a blast when Mr. Wilson brought his class over and taught a math lesson on number sense.  What fun to be able to learn and get to know each other a little better.  Thanks Mr. Wilson and class!

Prairie Heritage Center

Our field trip was so much fun!  We had a beautiful day to visit the Prairie Heritage Center and learned so much.  We got to take a hike and look for animal clues.  We learned about the buffalo that we saw from the bus, had a scavenger hunt, and learned about birds.  The students did some great writing about this trip.  Look for the book they wrote when you come for your conference in two weeks.  Check out our pictures below!

Partners in Excellence

United Bank of Iowa is our Partners in Excellence.  We appreciate the little tornado footballs they brought us for homecoming.  We also had a great time visiting the bank and getting a tour, eating cookies, drinking juice, and hearing a great Halloween story!  THANKS United Bank of Iowa!

Animals and Animal Signs

We had a big day in 2J.  Katie VanDerLinden, BV County Naturalist, came to our school to show us all kinds of cool animals.  We saw snakes, turtles, and even a beautiful falcon!  See the animals in the pictures below.

After Katie's program, we went for a walk at the new Boardwalk on Little Storm Lake.  We saw evidence of animals (animal "signs"), some animals, and some other interesting things.  Your student will be bringing home a paper tonight with all of the the things we saw.  Their homework is to share it with you.  Check out the pictures below and have a discussion about animals and their needs with your child.

We couldn't believe we saw a bear, a flying fish, AND a walrus in Storm Lake!  How strange! :)
